Here we will be showing you how to disassemble the Toshiba A215 series laptop.







Step 1: Removing screws from the base.
Step 2: Removing the power/media button cover and keyboard.
Step 3: Removing the display assembly.
Step 4: Removing the top case (palmrest).
Step 5: Removing the motherboard.
Step 6: Removing the CPU and heatsink.
Step 7: Disassembling the LCD assembly.


Step 1 - Removing screws from the base.



1.1 Remove the 4 screws for the memory and hard drive covers.



1.2 Remove the hard drive by pulling the caddy to the left away from the center of the laptop. This will disconnect it from the motherboard.



1.3 The hard drive can then be removed from the caddy and replaced. Replacement hard drives can be found here.



1.4 The memory can now be removed by pulling the clips on either side away from the chips allowing them to pop up and be pulled out. Replacement memory can be found here.



1.5 Now there are 19 screws left in the base that need to be removed. Once they are removed the optical drive can be pulled out. Replacement DVD drives can be found here.


Step 2 - Removing the power button/hinge cover and keyboard.



2.1 Gently pry the cover upwards. There will not be any cables attached to this part. Replacements can be found here.



2.2 With the power button/hinge cover removed, the keyboard can now be unscrewed and disconnected. The connection for this keyboard needs to be pushed on both sides away from the connector to open and pulled back to close. Refer to the pictures for the open and closed state. Replacement keyboards can be found here.


Step 3 - Removing the display assembly.



3.1 Pull the video cable out of the connection. Disconnect the black and white antenna from the wireless card.



3.2 Remove the 2 screws on both hinges on both sides of the display. The assembly can then be removed from the base.



Step 4 - Removing the top case (palmrest).



4.1 Remove the 2 screws securing the wireless card and remove it. Replacement wireless cards can be found here.

4.2 Disconnect the touchpad cable from the motherboard the same way as the keyboard. Replacement palmrests can be found here.




4.3 Remove the one screw securing the palmrest, it can then be lifted up from the side and removed.


Step 5 - Removing the motherboard.




5.1 Remove the dual USB board by pulling the cable out of the connection and lifting it out of the base.





5.2 Disconnect and unscrew the left and right speakers.




5.3 Disconnect the power button board from the motherboard, this can also be removed from the base by removing the 2 screws. here.



5.4 The VGA port can be disconnected and unscrewed to be removed.



5.5 The fan can now be disconnected and unscrewed to be removed. Replacement can be found here.





5.6 The modem can be removed by removing the cable and the 2 screws securing it to the motherboard.





5.7 Remove the screw securing the motherboard and it can then be lifted out of the base. Replacement motherboards can be found here.





5.8 The DC jack can be removed from the motherboard by lifting on the connection. Replacements can be found here.


Step 6 - Removing the CPU and heatsink.



6.1 Unscrew the heatsink from the 4 points shown. Replacement heatsinks can be found here.



6.2 Use a flat head screw driver to turn the lock on the CPU to the unlock position and the CPU can then be lifted out. Replacement CPUs can be found here.


Step 7 - Disassembling the LCD assembly.




7.1 Remove the 6 rubber screw covers and their screws.





7.2 Gently pry the bezel off from around the LCD. The latches can easily be damaged during this process. Replacements can be found here.



7.3 Remove the screw securing the inverter to the cover and disconnect it for removal. Replacements can be found here.



7.4 Lift the LCD out of the cover to remove the hinge brackets by removing the screws on both sides of the screen. here.




7.5 Use the tab on the video cable to pull it out of the connection on the back of the LCD. The screen can now be replaced and replacements can be found here.
