horror To pumpkins and cobwebs we say goodbye, as they’re tucked away for another time. Mistletoe and candy canes will soon be the theme of a holiday with an awfully, awkward color scheme. The eerie soundtracks have gone away as cheerier tunes begin to play. Heartwarming TV specials are in store, but for the true horror fan… every day is a welcome day for ghouls, guts, and gore!

Halloween might be over, but it’s not like candy is a seasonal treat. Indulge in our Top 5 horror games for iOS!

  1. Murder Room (Free)

Murder-RoomThere isn’t time for subtle titles, as you find yourself trapped in a room with a man working another person over with a chainsaw. Safe to assume he’s into serial murder… Your goal is simply to escape by interacting with the environment. Tapping the screen allows you to search an area and act on or collect objects. As for direction and flow, you can purchase hints (you start with a limited amount of currency) to help you when you’re stuck; and between deciding whether or not an item might be useful and figuring out obscure clues, you’ll be left in the dark. This will probably appeal to the fans of the Saw franchise.

  1. Knock-Knock Game ($4.99)

Knock-KnockThis one is borderline insane – the character you play in this game, I mean. The game is set in a rickety old house where you are a disturbed-looking man simply called the Lodger. There are so many things going on and you’re left clueless as where to start, but the main objective is to survive until sunrise. Throughout the course of the frantic night, you’ll have to fix the lights and keep the cabin rooms repaired to ward off evil. Besides cabin maintenance, your main line of defense will be to run and hide from invading creatures – that’s right, kids. No proton packs. Along with the main objective, you have to try to solve the mystery of the Lodger’s nightmare, all while keeping your sanity intact. This game’s a doozy and it’s off the wall. Definitely worth a go.

Here’s a statement from Knock-Knock’s home and game development studio, Ice-Pick Studio:

Knock-Knock Game is a must-have for horror fans because, as Rock Paper Shotgun has so eloquently put it, it’s a game about horror and not just of horror. If you’re tired of same old jump scares and same old horror tropes, Knock-Knock is the game for you. It has a spooky Autumnal mood, true, but it’s also a game about a very closed-minded and reluctant man who’s basically scaring himself into hiding. There are some rules to survive, sure. But do you really have to follow them?

  1. The Hunting Part 1 (free)

The-HuntingThe concept of zombies originated from Haitian voodoo culture, and limped its way to literature and film in the late 1920s, early 1930s — and has drastically infected pop culture since. Zombies are here to stay, and with that comes the need to tweak and innovate the way fanatics experience the genre. That’s where The Hunting Part 1 comes in. Its angle? An interactive zombie movie – the first of its kind. It’s a first person movie where you’re in charge of your fate. “YOU make the decision, and YOU live or die based on your actions.”

Here’s a quote from Wotsamaflip Studios developer, Jason Stewart:

The Hunting takes the zombie movie to the next level. We dare you to play it alone in the dark with headphones!

  1. Limbo ($4.99)

LimboThe only description of the plot the game gives is “Uncertain of his sister’s fate, a boy enters LIMBO.” The game is a puzzle-platformer, where the main character starts his search for his sister in a dark forest. You move the character along through the forest and eventually to and through other environments, like a crumbling city, by solving a set of multi-step puzzles. Besides solving puzzle after puzzle that steadily increase in complexity, you’ll also have to avoid giant spiders and unfriendly LIMBO residents. Eerie, undeniably unique, difficult, and stunning in black and white, the critically acclaimed LIMBO is simply beautiful and a must download.

  1. Dark Meadow ($5.99)

Dark-MeadowThe game starts with you waking up in a hospital, and the how you got there and why is what you need to figure out. Through speakers set up in and around the hospital, an old man warns you of a beautiful witch with minions that are out to get you. This app has a mature plot, smooth and fluid gameplay, bizarre if not disturbing characters, weapons for both long and close range battles, and is just a fantastic horror game. Also critically acclaimed, Dark Meadow pretty much shows off just how good iOS games can be.

sweatEver since the release of the first iPhone, there have been a lot of apps that can be used to help us do our exercises. caseEvery other competitor in the smartphone market had a field day when reports and a viral video of the iPhone 6 Plus bending under both involuntary and voluntary pressure surfaced in September. Jokes, smear ads, hashtags, and threads were rampant online and why not? It’s like, you don’t have a wardrobe malfunction on the red carpet and expect the photographers to go, “Whoa, WHOA! EVERYONE look away!” You just can’t will that to be the reality we live in.

An opportunity presented itself and the predators pounced. It was all in the spirit of competition and fun, but let’s get real. The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus are excellent devices. The battery life has improved drastically, the display is gorgeous, the camera is superior to past generations, the speaker quality is excellent, and you can do serious work on the 6 Plus like even manage your spreadsheets – a two-for-one device that can replace your tablet. And how about the fact that it comes in two sizes? If you’re still iffy about the 6 Plus, then get the iPhone 6. Both are great devices, and just for extra peace of mind, you might want to consider using one of these five extra tough cases for serious protection.

otterOtter Box Defender Series Case for iPhone 6

The Otter brand is a household name in the world of smartphone cases, known for its toughness. The Defender for the iPhone 6 is a multi-layer case that fully covers your phone and will protect it against drops, shocks, and dust. Within the high-impact polycarbonate shell is memory foam that cushions your device as the exteriors absorbs impact. And the case comes with a holster clip that can double as a kickstand. A cool option provided is that you can customize your case and personally design it.

pelicanPelican ProGear Voyager

Pelican Products, the leader in mission-critical equipment protection, have been around for decades. They’ve protected our troops, so you know your can trust anything Pelican-made. The ProGear Voyager is a multi-layered, polycarbonate case that absorbs energy with its TPR and PU rubber. Its design is slim and soft to the touch, and its screen protector is scratch-resistant. It also comes with a belt clip and the lifetime guarantee: “You break it, we replace it…forever.”

spigenSpigen Tough Armor (4.7)

Spigen’s selling point for the Touch Armor case is that it absorbs impacts better than other “boxy/bulky” cases in the market. It incorporates new Air Cushion Technology corners, which reduce the case’s overall thickness without compromising its extreme protection. The Tough Armor has a four-point Rear Guard that protects its polycarbonate backplate by lifting it above the surface. Also worth mentioning is that it’s compatible with Beats by Dre headphones.

body-gloveBody Glove ShockSuit

Body Glove boasts that the Rugged Series ShockSuit cases are Military-Duty ready to take on the harshest conditions. The case is a full-coverage case, protecting your iPhone 6’s screen, buttons, and ports, while still maintaining your camera’s view.

Many times when our phones drop, they usually slip right out of our hands. The ShockSuit tackles this issue with its no-slip grip, making the protection of your iPhone 6 both a “proactive and preemptive” approach. And of course, as its name suggests, the case fits the iPhone 6 like a glove.

griffinGriffin Survivor All-Terrain

The name says it all for this case. This survivor was built to meet and exceed the US Department of Defense MIL-STD-810G’s published standards. Take your Survivor All-Terrain to a place where it might be subject to drops, dust, sand, rain, impacts, etc. and feel confident that your iPhone 6 will come back probably in better condition than you.

The Survivor All-Terrain is made with four layers of protection, beginning with a foam-lined polycarbonate frame that’s shatter-resistant and made with shock-absorbing silicone. It also comes with a heavy-duty rotating clip.

These are Cell Phone City’s five favorite iPhone 6 cases. Pick one up, and then try to subject your iPhone 6 to a bend test.

gameBecause of how fast technology is evolving nowadays, everyone can now create their own apps for iPhones and iPads. All they need to know is some programming and to understand how iOS works. However, if you want to be successful, usually you also need a backing company to support you. But doing it independently can result in a good future. Take a look at Steve Jobs himself. With his friends, he was able to develop their first computers in a garage. This is why indie developers should always aspire to create their own legacies as mobile technology innovators.

For many of us who love to play games, we may not know that some of the best games are developed independently. If you are looking for more games that have been developed this year independently, we at CellPhone City hope that this list will help you enjoy your smartphone even more.

 God-of-LightGod of Light (Playmous)

If you want to solve puzzles while appreciating beautifully-crafted visuals, try God of Light from Playmous. While you play, enjoy music from James Lavelle and his band Unkle. This game isn’t just thought-provoking, it also keeps you hooked with catchy beats!

Shadow-BladeShadow Blade (Dead Mage)

Crescent Moon Games has always been one of the best developers that always release high-quality games. This year, they gave us Shadow Blade. The controls for this 2D action game are so smooth and intuitive. The gameplay is fast-paced and if you enjoy ninja games, then this game is perfect for you.

Sky-Force-2014Sky Force 2014 (Infinite Dreams)

Sky Force is a vertical scrolling shooter. Infinite Dreams has always been making the most out of the touchscreen technology, providing the stunning weapon effects, explosions, and enemies. You will love the aesthetically-pleasing scenes like oceans, islands, and tropical beaches. You will surely enjoy this shoot-’em-up game on your smartphone.

GodfireGodfire: Rise of Prometheus (Vivid Games)

Do you love Greek mythology? Then you will love this third-person action-RPG app! This app is like the God of War series from Sony. The game looks good, thanks to its distinct art style and stunning visuals that provide gore and violence for the greatest myths. Battle against Minotaurs or Medusas with this combo-filled arcade that also offers customization options, secrets and puzzles you will surely enjoy.

OscuraOscura: Second Shadow (Chocolate Liberation Front)

Love to play in a spooky yet beautifully-designed world? Everything in Oscura is detailed in silhouette and reminiscent of a Tim Burton film. The protagonist has the ability to slow time which he can use to outwit his foes and solve puzzles. He can manipulate traps as he pass through Driftlands to fight darkness. If you love challenges, play this game!

It is always hard to make money anywhere you go, especially if you are alone in your endeavor. Not all developers get the chance to taste success and be bought by Facebook. Every game app developer loves to get exposure on iTunes or Google Play Store. If you are an aspiring developer, learn how to impress your players so you can get good reviews for your app, which will up its rank on the stores. Learn from these games while you enjoy playing them!
