Suppose you’re done shopping for Christmas gifts for your families and friends, will you just leave yourself empty-handed? This holiday season, it’s time to reward yourself with goodies that satisfy the smartphone addict in you.  Here we suggest the best cell phone accessories you can buy for yourself so that you can enjoy a truly Merry Christmas with your mobile companion!

breffo1. Breffo Spiderpodium

Dubbed as the “World’s Most Functional Phone Holder”, the Spiderpodium from Breffo is true to its earned praise. This phone deck is a multi-purpose tool that helps you transfix your smartphone any way you like, whether you want a stand while reading notes on your device, or set the smartphone acting as GPS on the car dashboard, or place it behind the front-seat headrest so that you’ll have a mini TV while traveling. Its flexible legs can wrap around any smartphone and it can serve as an improvised wall-bracket.

snow-lizard2. Snow Lizard SLXtreme Cases

Need some rugged, heavy-duty protection for your iPhone? Then Snow Lizard SLXtreme cases are exactly what you’re looking for. Coming in easy-to-spot and conventional colors like Signal Orange, Safety Yellow, Winter White, and Night Black,  the cases are a reliable phone accessory to someone who’s sporty, on-the-go, or simply clumsy. They’re waterproof and come with an integrated battery, one that recharges through solar power. With it, the phone can stand a height drop of 6 ft. and can be immersed in water 6 ft. deep. This is an iPhone case any outdoor enthusiast will love!

glider3. Glider Gloves – Winter Style Touch

This winter season, you need to cover yourself from the cold. And it includes your hands. But we know how hard it is to use your smartphone when your hand is clad with a glove. The solution is the Glider Gloves.  Serving dual purpose, the Glider Gloves lets you accurately manipulate your device through screen taps and swipes while keeping your hands warm even in below-freezing temperatures. They are made of nylon, acrylic, copper, and spandex. They offer full hand and 10 fingers functionality with an anti-slip grip.

Whooz4. Whooz Vinyl Labels

Let’s digress a bit. I know these are technically not cell phone accessories, but this shouldn’t fly off the radar. Dress up your phone chargers with cute and funny labels so that you know which chargers are yours and which are for what type of device. Funnily enough, the company that carries them is “Whoozizit”, a gimmicky way of asking “whose is it?.” This works for families and offices which use a lot of phone and tablet chargers, especially of iPads and iPhones.  You can choose from hilarious sets of design like Domesticated iPhone set, Freaks iPhone set, Heroes iPhone set and more!

sanctuary5. Blue Lounge Sanctuary 4 Charging Station

For the techno geek who juggles 4 devices at once, this sleek and innovative charging station is quite a treat to have this Christmas. Sanctuary 4 is made with a 4-amp charger that efficiently juices up your devices in one place in one time. It offers customizable connectivity thanks to its adjustable stand, rubberized tray, USB output, micro-USB, power input, and connector access. There are recommended device combinations so that your devices can get a full charge with zero drag e.g. two tablets a time, one tablet and two smartphone at a time, or four smartphones at a time.

I love technology. A big part of that has to do with the fact that my entire livelihood revolves around my access to a computer and the Internet. But, beyond the fact that technology allows me to provide for my family, it can also benefit me — and you — in other ways.

Technology can help you save money. In fact, not a day goes by that I don’t use my smartphone in some way connected to my finances. Whether it’s checking my bank balance online or running a quick price comparison, technology helps me save money. If you want to save money, going mobile can be a great way to do so, with little inconvenience. Here are 5 ways mobile technology can help you save money:

1. Manage Your Budget

One of the best ways to save money is to manage your budget. I don’t have a traditional budget, but I can still use my smartphone to track my spending and make sure I don’t get too carried away. If you have a budget, a good app can help you see where you stand, and alert you when it’s time to stop spending money and focus more on saving what you can. I use Moneydance, but many consumers like Mint.com. Another good budgeting app that you can bring with you is YNAB. YNAB will help you give every dollar a job — including savings. This is a great way to plan ahead and make sure that you are setting money aside, and not just spending on random items.

2. Price Comparison

Since getting my smartphone, it’s been easier than ever to compare prices when I go shopping. The right barcode app allows you to scan a potential purchase and compare the price with other possibilities. You might find something across town, or discover a better deal online. It’s no longer necessary to drive around town or make a lot of tedious phone calls. Instead, a simple barcode scan provides you with all the information you need to get the best price. I use RedLaser for price comparisons, but other apps include Shop Savvy, Smoopa, and ShopVia.

3. Coupons

Mobile technology makes it easy to store coupons in your smartphone for use at the store. There are even coupon apps that can help you match up what you have quickly and easily, without the need for you to clip them, and then try to find them. I’m not much of a couponer, but my couponing friends love to use coupon apps. Not only do these apps help them stay organized, but they also suggest savings. Coupon Sherpa and Coupons.com can both help you find and use coupons on your phone. If you want to ramp up your grocery savings, try Grocery IQ, which helps you match coupons to your shopping list.

4. Geo-based Deals

One of the growing uses for mobile technology is to target you with promotions and savings based on your location. You can “check-in” at a restaurant on Foursqaure and receive an instant discount or coupon. You can also turn on apps that will alert you when you walk near a store with a good deal. This is a good way to ensure that you save on your regular purchases by getting rewarded for just coming in the door. Gowalla is another great geo-based app, and the Groupon app can help you identify deals for your local area quickly and easily.

5. Rewards and Rebates

Not only can you use your smartphone to get coupons and promotions, no matter where you are, but you can also get rewards and rebates. This takes saving money to the next level, since it also helps you earn cash back (or gift cards), discounts, and merchandise. The two most exciting apps are ibotta and shopkick. You can enjoy savings and earn rewards points, just for engaging in your regular shopping behaviors. I really like RetalMeNot as well, since it’s a fast way to find a promo code for almost anything.

Bottom Line

As long as you stick to your spending plan, and don’t go out of your way to claim bargains and deals, you can use mobile technology to save you money on the things you would buy anyway. Incorporate your smartphone into your shopping, and you might be surprised at what you can come up with.

It’s Christmas time again! This means besides celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, you have shopping malls filled to the brim, parties to host or attend, homes sparkling with Christmas lights and decorations, gift giving, and all the season’s commercial equivalents.

But aside from the merriment the yuletide season brings, tons of waste are expected to be harvested after the holidays, whether they are food leftovers, torn gift wrappers, paper utensils, and etc. RecycleWorks.org data say that between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day, the average American household waste increases by more than 25% and, in the US alone, annual trash from gift wrap and shopping bags totals four million tons.

So, in the spirit of green living, here are some ways you can hop off the overconsumption bandwagon and enjoy a save-more, zero waste Christmas this year!

bagSave up on gift wrapping

Christmas gift wrap usually ends up torn and cannot be recycled anymore. Instead of buying rolls of new wrapping paper, why don’t you pack your gifts inside eco-bags or paper bags? Also, choose bags that are not holiday-themed so that the person you’re giving the gift to will be able to reuse the bag later. Isn’t it nice to receive gifts that you can use for a long time? Let’s apply the same to our bags. Put a holiday touch on it by tying a red ribbon or attaching a small Christmas card tag to it.

Let go of unused gifts received from previous Christmases

unused-giftMaybe you receive a lot of gifts during the holidays that you don’t use or just put in storage, waiting for the opportune time to use them. It could be a never-been-worn shirt, unread book, unused set of mugs, and so on. The clutter just adds up year after year and that precious space inside your house is compromised.

It’s time to give them away as presents to people who you think might love them. Rewrap them and send it to a loved one. Just make sure that you don’t accidentally send the gift to its original giver, lest your friendship is ruined!

lightsTurn off those Christmas lights!

I don’t mean this literally, of course. If you’re buying new Christmas lights, go LED because they are brighter and energy-efficient. They also doesn’t heat up as fast. Although LED lights are more expensive than traditional Christmas lights, the return on investment is bigger if you consider the number of years you can continually use LED lights. Make sure that you only buy those approved by the Underwriters Laboratories (UL) or by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA). These agencies are accredited to issue safety standard certifications for lights.

Christmas lights come in different types:

  • Color changing lights
  • Icicle
  • Net
  • Rope
  • Solar
  • Specialty
  • Bulk

Another excellent option — schedule the time to turn your lights on and off, so you never leave them on for too long.

Don’t Indulge in Feasts

feastOne of the classic pictures of the holiday season is a table swarming with food. There are practically food parties everywhere! If you are the host of a Christmas party or a Christmas Eve dinner, make sure that you know how many guests you will have for the night, and prepare accordingly. If you just spend dinner with the family, you don’t have to cook that much food, avoiding leftovers. Most of us are pretty satiated anyway with the food we eat during the holidays, we don’t have to overindulge. In fact, according to the Environmental Protection Agency, American food waste amounts to 96 billion pounds each year. That’s a lot of food that could otherwise feed thousands of hungry families.

This season, put more importance on the fact that you are celebrating together, no matter how simple the food you’re partaking of is.

MONEYOpt for money or gift cards

Not sure what to give to someone? You can do gift-giving the lazy man’s way. Skip the tedious stroll at the mall and the unnecessary packaging, and give the gift of money or gift cards. This way, you can give the person freedom to enjoy whatever they actually want. Or if you want to exert a greater effort, you can give ‘experience’ gifts like a spa treatment, restaurant vouchers, a night’s stay at a nice hotel, etc.

Shop for 2nd Hand Gifts

marketDon’t go all out on gift-giving this Christmas. For much cheaper costs, you can find a well-maintained handbag at a thrift or charity stores or cute accessories at the nearest flea market. All you need is a little bit of patience. Just think of it as an entertaining exploration. Who knows what you can find on those heap of 2nd hand items. Or you can shop online for pre-owned devices like smartphones and tablets (if you want to be generous without shelling out a huge sum of money). You can try online shops like Cell Phone City where you can buy cheap smartphone brands at a very low cost. There’s a wide array of devices- in different brands, models, colors, and price ranges- you can choose from. We’re sure the recipient will love it

For the longest time, I held on to my old flip phone and swore off having a smartphone. I couldn’t quite see the value in it (yet) and I thought they were so expensive.

As a budget minded individual, I was not about to pay hundreds of dollars on a phone. But then I started losing work because I didn’t have a smartphone.

A few years ago, I was working events that were very time-sensitive and required a response within the hour, or else it would be booked. Every night I’d come home and see that I’d missed their emails and missed out on another chance to actually make more money.

It was then that I knew I had to join the present and upgrade my high school flip phone. Luckily, after doing some research I found affordable ways to get a phone.

Here are some tips on how to save money when buying a smartphone:

Buy Used

Many people believe that the only way to get a smartphone is by going to a store and getting a new one. Wrong! Now more than ever, you can buy an affordable phone that is used and practically like new, while saving hundreds of dollars.

Consider how many people buy phones every year — or even every six months! Instead of letting old phones go to waste, I like to adopt a culture of reuse — even with my technology! Buying used technological items like mobile phones or laptops is a great way to save money and reduce waste.

Base your Purchase on Function, Not Form

It’s easy to get swept up in the latest and greatest smartphones, but in order to save money, it’s important to not follow trends. Think about how and why you will be using your smartphone.

For me, it’s for staying in touch with others, looking up directions, depositing checks on the go, and booking work in an instant.

When deciding what smartphone to buy, don’t necessarily judge a book by its cover. You want to make sure your phone does what you want and is functional — not just fancy or beautiful.

Wait

Every time there is a new Apple product release, hoards of people line up to get first access to their products. I have a Macbook that I make my living off of, so I understand how nice Apple products are, but you won’t find me shelling out hundreds of dollars on a new phone or camping out overnight to get a new phone. The simple act of waiting can result in great rewards, like increased savings and more availability of products.

Even just waiting a few months can result in hundreds of dollars in savings! As newer products get released and things go on sale, it’ll be cheaper to buy a smartphone later. For best results, shop online.

Save Money & Spend on Your Priorities

Consider how much you are saving on your smartphone and think about some things you could use that money for like paying down debt, traveling, buying gifts, investing, or having a cushion of savings. The possibilities are endless! Most people will buy multiple smartphones in their lifetime, so the savings could add up quickly!

In short, here are the key takeaways on how to save money when buying a smartphone:

  • Shop online
  • Don’t follow trends
  • Wait
  • Always check reviews online
  • Ask your family if they have any hand-me-down phones
  • Look for coupons on sites like RetailMeNot
  • Think about all the other things you could do with that saved money

At this point, mobile technology is changing so quickly, that it just makes financial sense to buy something that is refurbished or that is an older model. Instead of spending so much money on your smartphone, use it to save and actually make money!

We at Cell Phone City searched online to look for the best photography apps that smartphone users can use. Among what we found, e selected the best photo apps for iPhone, iPad, and Android, from cool cameras to photo editing tools. We chose apps that are not already very popular, because we want to put a spotlight on ones that really deserve it.

Here are our top 5 photo apps for your smartphone:

  1. Ampergram (for iOS and Android)

AmpergramDeveloped by Clamped Studios, the Ampergram app is a combination of typography and Instagram. It lets users create endless typographic compositions using cool photos of fonts. You can even capture and tag your own letters. The app contains thousands of fonts generated by its community, and the letters can be filtered by style and location. The app is available for $0.99.

  1. Magic Hour Lite (for iOS and Android)

Magic-Hour-LiteMagic Hour Lite (or Magic Hour Free on Android) combines filters and a tilt-shift function to create unique and beautiful photos. The filters are for effects that go beyond the regular tints or overexposures of Instagram. The app is perfect to use with Instagram, because it crops your image to a square. Try the Magic Hour filter, which provides a soft luminescence. Make sure that your photos are bright, because the filters work best on lighter images, taken in daylight or left underexposed. This app is available for free.

  1. Clone Camera (for iOS and Android)

Clone-CameraPeta Vision developed this smart photo-compositing app that lets users double their images. It creates a photo of a scene with the same person in multiple times. You can take four photos of the same person in different locations and then select the areas you want to use and stitch them together into one photo. The app works best if you use a tripod, or at least keep your device still. Clone Camera is available for $1.99.

  1. Camera Awesome (for iOS only)

Camera-AwesomeAvailable for free, the Camera Awesome app from Smug Mug has a very clean and smooth interface, which makes it easy to use. The functions and filters are really awesome. The only problem with this app is that it often previews demo versions of paid-for features, so you need to backtrack if you are satisfied with the free content. But try the “Awesomize” button, which makes your photo bright and sharp in one click. You can still fine tune the details after.

  1. FxCamera (for iOS and Android)

FxCameraIf you really want to be creative with your photos, try this free app from Bitcellar. The FxCamera is a highly-rated photography and photo effects app. The best feature it offers is the Voice Picture, which lets users record a voice message while you take a photo. This is done through the on-screen shutter button, which lets you to create a spoken caption for your image whenever you swipe to the right. You can even share these Voice Pictures on Facebook. And if you don’t like this feature, you can use the normal FxCamera camera and improve your photos using the auto-enhance feature.

Smartphones nowadays provide image quality that can rival the traditional camera. However, this doesn’t mean that you couldn’t use some enhancements before you share them on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. What you do not need, however, is an expensive and complicated photo editing tool. You can just use your smartphone and download any one of these apps to help you brighten your shots, crop them, and fine tune any color. From basic one-touch editing to awesome fine-tuning controls, these apps are definitely the best photo apps out there!

giftChristmas is just around the corner! It won’t be long before it’s time to exchange gifts. But for those of you who haven’t done your shopping, CellPhone City offers some cell phone gift ideas to settle the frenzied mind of a human Santa Claus like you:

  1. Garden Charging Station
garden

The Zen-like feel of this Garden Charging station will bring out the eco-friendliness in you. We all know what an eyesore it is to see wirings like octopus tentacles when charging your phone, especially if you are charging multiple devices at once. This mini-lawn charging station will hide the wire underneath its grass. And yes, there’s only one power cord doing the job so that the station won’t look messy.

  1. Mobile Phone Monopod
monopad

Admit it; we’re a selfie-obsessed generation. And even “selfie” is wriggling its way to obsolescence. Now we have what we call a “groufie”. But if you don’t have somebody around who will take your group’s photo, nor does someone in your group have an elastic arm to take the groufie, this means you badly need a mobile phone monopod. You can find them in different colors and sizes.

  1. OlloClip
olloclip

While we’re at the subject of taking photos, here’s one that can help amp your smartphone’s photo-capturing abilities. Though smartphones in general have their camera features upgraded by a mile, some of us are not content with just jacked-up megapixels. We want flexibility in terms of close-up macro shots or wide-angle photos. Olloclip can go with the iPhone 4, 5, 6, and 6 Plus, as well as the Samsung Galaxy S4 and S5.

  1. Mophie Juice Pack Powerstation
mophie

Always on the go but your gizmos can’t catch up? A power bank is what you need. Electronic devices nowadays require so much energy that their batteries – with their size and capacity compromised – cannot sustain. Now, you can fully enjoy the features of your iPhone or iPad knowing that you have a power backup. It is very handy and easy-to-use.

  1. Logitech UE Mini Boom Bluetooth Speaker
speakers

For a loved one who is also a music lover, this Logitech UE Mini Boom Bluetooth speaker is a great gift idea this Christmas. Coming in different colors and in a cylindrical case, the Mini Boom speakers pack a massive amount of volume. They are very light and can be attached to a second Mini Boom if you would like. You can run it through a free iPhone app that you can install after you purchase the accessory.

  1. Wireless Headphones

How about the loved one who celebrates music quietly and privately? Wireless headphones should do the job for you. It’s a good thing there is a wide array of wireless headphones to choose from at varying prices too. What is important is that you test it for quality sound, comfort (you might want to try the ear-hook type so that your ears won’t hurt), and function.

  1. Cardboard iPhone Projector

Ventured towards the corporate dudes and gals, this clever cardboard iPhone projector is certainly a cool gift idea. We’re sure that whoever the recipient is of this creative present will whoop in surprise. This cardboard iPhone projector does exactly what a projector does. It has a retro look and packs an 8x magnifying lens. Totally handy when doing presentations!

martin-dasko-guru“Get off your phone, you’re at a party!”

We always give our buddy trouble because he plays with his phone when he’s at a party. We don’t care about what he does on his own time, but at a party, it’s pretty rude. He’s never able to keep up with the conversation.

I must admit that I also find myself staring into my cell phone. Sometimes I’m actually being productive and not just going on Tinder. I actually have figured out ways to save money with my phone. I wanted to share with you how you can use your phone to do something positive for your finances.

How does my cell phone save me money on a daily basis?

My banking app.

Can you believe that our parents actually had to physically go to the bank to check their account balances? Who has time for that?

I check my account balances daily with my phone. I ensure that my savings’ goals are being met and then I have enough money in my checking account to cover expenses.

I manage to save money by moving money around and always keeping an eye on my balance. I want to be constantly reminded of where I stand with my finances. It’s too easy to get distracted and lost. I see far too many friends spending money that they don’t have.

Another benefit of my banking app is that I can create sub-accounts. I use this for the various goals in my life.

For example, I have a sub-account for trips. Sometimes when I’m about to make a useless purchase I stop myself and transfer the money over to this account. As this account grows I get excited about going on my next adventure.

Are you doing mobile banking yet?

Note taking.

I take plenty of notes. I write down ideas, I make a list of stuff I need to buy, I leave reminders for myself, and I price compare as well.

I save money by keeping track of prices on my frequent purchases (usually supplements). This allows me to make smarter purchases.

You can also use notes to leave reminders for yourself when it comes to goals, future purchases, or just any idea that comes to mind.

Free language learning.

Instead of paying for tutoring or buying some expensive program, I use Duolingo for my Spanish lessons on my phone. This is a free app that allows me to practice my Spanish.

Instead of complaining about the bus being late, I bust out my phone and complete a few lessons. I always have something to do because there’s always another lesson that I need to go through.

Books.

I love to read but physical books are not cheap in the store. I was never into reading on my phone, until I got the perfect phone for reading books.

I save some money by reading books on my phone. I try to download the free books that are available. I also shop around for deals for the mobile version.

As much fun as it is to record silly videos with your phone and to surf through Instagram, you can also find time to save money.

How are you going to save money with your phone?

horror To pumpkins and cobwebs we say goodbye, as they’re tucked away for another time. Mistletoe and candy canes will soon be the theme of a holiday with an awfully, awkward color scheme. The eerie soundtracks have gone away as cheerier tunes begin to play. Heartwarming TV specials are in store, but for the true horror fan… every day is a welcome day for ghouls, guts, and gore!

Halloween might be over, but it’s not like candy is a seasonal treat. Indulge in our Top 5 horror games for iOS!

  1. Murder Room (Free)

Murder-RoomThere isn’t time for subtle titles, as you find yourself trapped in a room with a man working another person over with a chainsaw. Safe to assume he’s into serial murder… Your goal is simply to escape by interacting with the environment. Tapping the screen allows you to search an area and act on or collect objects. As for direction and flow, you can purchase hints (you start with a limited amount of currency) to help you when you’re stuck; and between deciding whether or not an item might be useful and figuring out obscure clues, you’ll be left in the dark. This will probably appeal to the fans of the Saw franchise.

  1. Knock-Knock Game ($4.99)

Knock-KnockThis one is borderline insane – the character you play in this game, I mean. The game is set in a rickety old house where you are a disturbed-looking man simply called the Lodger. There are so many things going on and you’re left clueless as where to start, but the main objective is to survive until sunrise. Throughout the course of the frantic night, you’ll have to fix the lights and keep the cabin rooms repaired to ward off evil. Besides cabin maintenance, your main line of defense will be to run and hide from invading creatures – that’s right, kids. No proton packs. Along with the main objective, you have to try to solve the mystery of the Lodger’s nightmare, all while keeping your sanity intact. This game’s a doozy and it’s off the wall. Definitely worth a go.

Here’s a statement from Knock-Knock’s home and game development studio, Ice-Pick Studio:

Knock-Knock Game is a must-have for horror fans because, as Rock Paper Shotgun has so eloquently put it, it’s a game about horror and not just of horror. If you’re tired of same old jump scares and same old horror tropes, Knock-Knock is the game for you. It has a spooky Autumnal mood, true, but it’s also a game about a very closed-minded and reluctant man who’s basically scaring himself into hiding. There are some rules to survive, sure. But do you really have to follow them?

  1. The Hunting Part 1 (free)

The-HuntingThe concept of zombies originated from Haitian voodoo culture, and limped its way to literature and film in the late 1920s, early 1930s — and has drastically infected pop culture since. Zombies are here to stay, and with that comes the need to tweak and innovate the way fanatics experience the genre. That’s where The Hunting Part 1 comes in. Its angle? An interactive zombie movie – the first of its kind. It’s a first person movie where you’re in charge of your fate. “YOU make the decision, and YOU live or die based on your actions.”

Here’s a quote from Wotsamaflip Studios developer, Jason Stewart:

The Hunting takes the zombie movie to the next level. We dare you to play it alone in the dark with headphones!

  1. Limbo ($4.99)

LimboThe only description of the plot the game gives is “Uncertain of his sister’s fate, a boy enters LIMBO.” The game is a puzzle-platformer, where the main character starts his search for his sister in a dark forest. You move the character along through the forest and eventually to and through other environments, like a crumbling city, by solving a set of multi-step puzzles. Besides solving puzzle after puzzle that steadily increase in complexity, you’ll also have to avoid giant spiders and unfriendly LIMBO residents. Eerie, undeniably unique, difficult, and stunning in black and white, the critically acclaimed LIMBO is simply beautiful and a must download.

  1. Dark Meadow ($5.99)

Dark-MeadowThe game starts with you waking up in a hospital, and the how you got there and why is what you need to figure out. Through speakers set up in and around the hospital, an old man warns you of a beautiful witch with minions that are out to get you. This app has a mature plot, smooth and fluid gameplay, bizarre if not disturbing characters, weapons for both long and close range battles, and is just a fantastic horror game. Also critically acclaimed, Dark Meadow pretty much shows off just how good iOS games can be.
